The final RX-7 the Series 8 was built between 1999 and 2002 and received more efficient turbochargers. Improved intercooling and radiator cooling was made possible by a revised frontal area. The seats, steering wheel, and front and rear lights were all changed. The rear spoiler was modified and gained adjustability.

Mazda claimed the power output had been raised to 206kW but during the late ’90s some Japanese sports cars were making more power than was stated and some Series 8 RX-7s were producing around 225kW in standard form.
