Mazda RX-7 Series 6

First displayed at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1991, and put on sale in NZ from April 1992, the third generation RX-7 was a revelation. The swoopy styling earned it the nickname of ‘Batmobile’ and the 13B engine was further updated with a sequential twin-turbo system to provide power and torque throughout the rev range and reduce turbo lag.
The Series 6 RX-7 represented a return to the sports car origins for a model that had become bigger and heavier since its launch in 1978. In spite of the new sports image, luxury has not been sacrificed. Standard fittings include things like cruise control, electric windows and mirrors, leather trim, air conditioning, central locking and security alarm system. The exterior sheet metal is a showpiece of the late 80′s/early 90′s Mazda design team. It displayed some of the most intricately curved surfaces yet seen on a production car.
With the new twin-turbo system the S6 RX-7 had an increased output of 190kW and could make the 0 to 100km/h sprint in around 6.3 seconds with a quarter mile time of 14.5 seconds.
