Mazda RX-7 Series 4

The Series 4 Mazda RX-7 made its debut in 1986. In an attempt to appeal to the American market the new RX-7 increased in size and weight and exhibited new Porsche 944 styling. To compensate for the extra weight, a larger, fuel-injected 13B rotary engine now produced 112kW, the optional turbocharged 13B boasted 135kW of grunt.
Steering was more precise, with rack and pinion steering replacing the old recirculating ball steering of the first generation RX-7. Disc brakes had also became standard, with some variants even offering four-piston front brakes. Handling was more technically competent , but the nature of the car had grown away from the pure sports car of the early RX-7 towards more of a sports tourer. Despite this change the Series 4 Mazda RX-7 was a sales success selling 86,000 units in the US alone in 1986, its first model year.
