Mazda RX-7 Series 3

The Series 3 RX-7 was produced during 1984 and 1985, it featured an updated lower front fascia, uprated suspension and larger disc brakes. The external air-oil oil cooler was reintroduced, after being dropped in the 1983 model-year for the controversial “beehive” water-oil heat exchanger.
Mazda introduced the GSL-SE sub-model in some markets this had a fuel injected 1.3 L 13B RE-EGI engine producing 101 kW and 183 Nm of torque. It also made use of a clutch-type rear LSD set-up and rear disc brakes with larger brake rotors allowing Mazda to use the more common lug nuts (versus bolts), and a new bolt pattern of 4×114.3 (4×4.5″).
Also introduced in 1984 was the Limited Edition turbocharged RX-7, with a five-speed gearbox, for the Japanese market only, though we do see a few imports of these special RX-7s in NZ.
