Subaru Impreza Berlinetta rear-engined concept

Subaru fans have been busy hoping and dreaming of a sports coupe from the Japanese maker for many years now. And it does seem fans will get their wish when Subaru unveils its own version of the Toyota FT-86. But until then, a very different Subaru Coupe conceptual study has been penned by Italian designers, Beestudio.

Named the Subaru Impreza Berlinetta, the basic idea behind the concept was to create a high-performance two-seater sports car using the Impreza STI as base. The twist to it all is that the performance sedan’s platform would be turned around, meaning that the turbocharged boxer engine on the Berlinetta would live at the rear-end of the car.

Sounds far-fetched? Well it is and Beestudio also says that this imaginary Berlinetta would make use of steel tubular chassis, fibreglass body panels and extensive use of aluminium and carbon fibre to further reduce the car’s weight.

Being a design studio, the Italian company went fairly radical on the design for the body. We can’t say that the awkward looking, ballooned look really excites us, but feel free to have your say in the comments section below.
