Subaru has just released details of its upcoming concept car for the SEMA car show to be held in Las Vegas, USA. Named the Forester XTI concept, Subaru America has gone all out to beef up this kiwi favorite.

Visually the concept isn’t too radical, it gets a JDM body kit, lower front spoiler, mesh front grille and a paint job described by Subaru as an “Atmospheric Re-Entry paint scheme”. Under the paint scheme is where the real changes lay, the Forester XTI gets the full Subaru Technica International treatment from the WRX STI, including its 2.5-litre turbocharged and intercooled boxer four powerplant, mated to a six speed manual transmission and, of course, all-wheel-drive. A cat-back exhaust helps bump power out to 315 hp and torque to 300 lb-ft, meaningful improvements over the stock engine’s ratings of 300-horsepower and 290 lb-ft. The new Forester XTI Concept is estimated to hit the 100km mark in less than 5 seconds from standing.

The Forester XTI Concept may just be another fancy show car to impress the crowds, or it could be a serious indication of a future production vehicle, fingers crossed.
