New event taking over South Island Champs date
Following the news last week about the postponing of the V 4&Rotary South Island Champs, a few of the South Island’s import racers sat down with the Pegasus Bay Drag Racing Club who run Ruapuna Raceway to work out a solution for all those who are still wanting to race. There will now be a drag meeting taking place on the cancled South Island Champs date of Feb 17, explains a spokesperson for the event; “They are not trying to take over or replace the event they are just trying to make the most of the cancelled meeting and have it not go to waste. There are a few people down here that are a little upset that its been cancelled, so we are putting it to them, lets prove the scene here in Christchurch isn’t completely dead and can put on a decent event!” A lot of the top import racers have already said they will attend, including Nathan McPherson (Rx7), Kris Robb (Rx7), Damiens (808 Team Altered Boost), Clinton Lockhead (Team Altered Boost), Avon Compton (S13), Alsop Racing (Willies Coupe), Minchingtons, Jon Peplow’s (Civic), Jase McMullin (Spec Evo), Jeff Richardson (Toyota Starlet) and Stu Rodgers (c33 Laurel). This list is sure to grow over the coming weeks. There will also be street car brakcets and if you wish to take part, check out the Facebook page for full details.
