Monster Tajima ready to take Millen on at Pikes Peak
Rhys Millen and his new Hyundai V8 powered Pikes Peak challenger have been getting the media spotlight with the radical vehicle and family history proving popular. But laying in wait is the old Pikes Peak master Nobuhiro “Monster” Tajima and he has no intention of letting Millen capture all the glory without a fight. Tajima has been a dominant force in International hill climb events and has owned Pikes Peak in recent years with the current overall record at 10:01.408, surpassing Rod Millen’s run back in 2007.
Tajima has been seen around Colorado this week leading up to the Pikes Peak event this Sunday with the latest edition of his Suzuki SX4 hill-climb special. The SX4 is a brutal machine, powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.1-litre V6 that pumps out 910 horsepower and 655 pound-feet of torque in a lightweight body. Since last year’s race Taijima has spent many hours in the wind tunnel perfecting the aerodynamics of his car to maximise down-force and reduce drag. It shaping up to be an epic battle on Sunday as the Tajima vs Millen family conflict resumes.
