Lee McLean jumps back in the seat

Lee McLean 1

Those with a keen memory will recall that Lee McLean rolled his R32 Nissan Skyline drift car at Slipway Drift Facility on the way home from round three of the NZ Drift Series in Christchurch last year. A man on a mission, Lee, together with the crew at SpeedFactor, pieced together a new Nissan Silvia S15 in just three weeks to make it to round four of the NZ Drift Series at Taupo Motorsport Park. With a short turn around time, the car wasn’t quite to the same competitive state as his old Skyline, so Lee only had the chance to campaign the S15 at the one round in 2008. Unfortunately since then, Lee wound up destroying the engine in the S15, and has spent the past six months overhauling the Silvia for the coming NZ Drift Series season. Sadly, Lee came up just short of having the car ready for the opening round of the Cocaine Energy Drink NZ Drift Series at Manfeild, but has since finished the S15 and got it up and running in time for the second round at Pukekohe Park Raceway on Sunday July 12.

Having not slid the car around for the best part of more than six months, it was a welcome return to the seat for Lee yesterday for a couple of shakedown laps at Taupo Motorsport Park. After feeling his way back into the setup, Lee’s already starting to look in tune with the new package, which should hopefully see him producing some good results come round two on July 12.

For more on Lee’s S15, we’ll have a full feature for you in a coming issue.
