Hyper Pro Racer – ready to scare (+video)

It’s taken him ten years but Aussie Jon Crooke has finished developing the Hyper Pro Racer, a “Superkart” that delivers ridiculous power and minimum weight.

Power comes from a a Yamaha 450 WR four-stroke motorcycle engine and runs through a five-speed sequential gearbox. The Hyper PRO weighs less than a fat guy at a mere 160kg plus the weight of a brave person tucked into the restricted driving position.

The weight savings come largely from the superkart’s clever spaceframe, which also acts as an FIA-approved roll cage. Instead of building a frame that accessories would be mounted to with brackets, the Aussie kart’s externals are mounted directly to a minimalist chassis frame without additional hardware. Included components are Ohlins aluminum-bodied race shocks and four-wheel cross-vented disc brakes with billet four-pot aluminum brake calipers.

The results are fairly scary and according to Hyper Pro the Kart is a strong runner that can lap the race track a little faster than an Aussie racing car and only slightly slower than a GT Production car. But it thrashes them for price: the track day Racer S is $29,500 AUS.
