Nominee #12: Mark Willers
A Kiwi Olympian and professional BMX rider, Marc Willers’s 1977 Toyota Corolla KE30 mimics his lifestyle: extreme. Looking around the KE, there’s little left by way of factory parts. The built and detailed Nissan SR20DET engine and Garrett T04S turbocharger rig combine to produce 292kW at the wheels more than four times its original grunt. But the engine is by no means the only worked part of the car. Extensive suspension and brake work has been carried out, while on the outside the KE30 has been shaved smooth and flared in the appropriate places to house the 18-inch Zenetti Tracer wheels, and then slapped with a custom green/gold tone. Even then, Marc wasn’t quite done, and turned his efforts towards the interior. Fitted with four bucket seats and re-trimmed in suede and leather, Marc’s Corolla is a nice place to sit. The boot’s pretty swish, too, featuring a custom fuel cell recessed into a re-trimmed trunk floor. Wherever you look, you’ll find custom work oozing from this old-school streeter.
