Judging
JUDGING — QUALIFYING
All competitors will be judged on each of their individual passes, with the competitors best pass determining final qualifying position.
Drivers will be scored on a points deduction system. A driver will start with a perfect score of 100 points, and then each mistake that driver is judged to have made will result in a reduction in points.
Each qualifying run is judged on four (4) criteria:
Speed: Speed is a combination of the entry speed on the first corner as well as the amount of speed the driver is able to carry through the entire judged section.
Line: Line is judged by how close each driver is able to place their vehicle relative to specific clipping points on the judged section, as outlined by the judges during the event’s driver briefing.
Counter Steer: Counter Steer measures the amount of counter-steer and relative rear slip angle a driver uses through the course.
Style: Style is the measure of any personal style in addition to the above criteria shown, the general feel of the pass and how well the other three criteria were executed together through the entirety of the judged section. Drivers should demonstrate full control of the vehicle at all times.
JUDGING — BATTLES
Drivers will be scored on a points advantage system, with each drift battle scored to a maximum of 100 points:
Each driver shall start the drift battle with 50 points.
For each pass the score awarded shall be average of the Judged scores for that pass.
For every error made within the judged area, the Judges shall deduct points from that driver and award those deducted points to the opposing driver.
The individual scores for each of the two passes made by the competitor shall be added together to determine the final score.
The lead car should enter the judged section within 90% of that competitor’s top qualifying entry speed, as published on the official notice board, and should not deviate from the line taken by that competitor during qualifying. Points shall be deducted for deviation of either speed or line.
The chase car must attempt to apply pressure to the lead vehicle and carry the same line or higher while staying as close as possible to the leader.
Lead and Chase cars are required to enter the Judged section with a gap of no more than 3 car lengths between them.
Passing shall only occur under the following conditions:
A pass must be made during a single corner drift not at a switching point and must be made while drifting and the appropriate racing room is taken into account. Passing is not permitted on the first corner of the judging area.
The chase car must not reduce angle or deviate from the line greatly in order to pass the lead car.
For passes on the outside line the above criteria are adequate to gain a good score for passing.
For passes on the inside line, the lead car must be significantly off the ideal line as requested by the judges in drivers briefing and the chase car must maintain close proximity to this line to gain a good score for passing.
The chase car must not make contact with the lead car. A zero (0) score shall be awarded to the chase car if judged to have disadvantaged the lead car.
Spins:
A spin is considered to be when a vehicle does not achieve or passes the point of angle where the drift can be maintained on the required line at adequate speed to complete the judged section as per the judging criteria. A spin is considered a 0 score. Points shall be allocated for all spins as follows:
Lead car: If the lead car spins without interference from the chase car, the score shall be 100-to-0 in favour of the chase car.
If, as a result of the above, the chase driver also spins, the score shall be 100-to-0 in favour of the chase car.
Chase car: If the chase car spins without interference from the lead car, the chase driver will receive a 0 score. The lead driver must complete the judged section and will receive a judged score.
If, as a result of the above, the lead car also spins, the lead driver shall receive a 0 score.
