Up north for the weekend
What a massive weekend that was! On saturday morning I made the trip up to good ole Whangarei to do a bit of photography work, mooch around, catch Bathurst on the big screen and maybe even sleep on some ones couch, should I find the time.
Not long after arriving in the small-smoke, Drift Corper Sam Groombridge took me down to the infamous Mike T’s “Fantasy Factory”, which is actually just an old bike store in the middle of town that he lives in. (I’m not even sure thats legal?). We turn up, and Jase from Asphalt Assault is there with his bike, and he reckons that its more than possible to pull off some pretty mean stunts inside the shop. Now, although my wide-angle lens makes the space look quite big, it most certainly isn’t. I almost copped a face-full of tyre a couple of times, but the shots came out pretty choice:

Later that night, I packed up all my camera gear and headed out into the countryside. The reason I had made the trip up in the first place was to shoot a party at a place called “The Forest Lounge”, I was at first dubious, but that all changed upon my arrival, what a sick party!

Fireworks, about 600 people and wicked DJ sets – it was pretty epic, despite being in the middle of nowhere! Big ups to Jono Peters and the team for putting it on. Surprisingly, Quite a few people must have recognised me from my little picture at the front of the magazine, as I had at least a dozen people randomly come up and have a chat about NZPC, their cars, or whatever, which was cool. If you were there, you can see all the pics here
Sunday was a bit of a write-off for me, but not those drift boys, who had a keg o’ Red amongst many other things with which to accompany them in their viewing of Bathurst. Those guys never cease to amaze me, but I wont go into that much further for fear of retribution. I mean, apart from posting this image, which is surely the single gayest thing I’ve seen supposedly straight men do. For shame! Congrats for finishing that keg though…

Oh, and I almost forgot, also made the trip out to this crazy little beach about 30 mins out of Whangarei – incredible. It’s like a tropical paradise out there, I didnt even know places like this existed in New Zealand, let alone a couple of hours out of Auckland.
