Print Night — An Ode to Mrs. Lynskey

June 26th, 2008 by Pedey

Here is a little insight into the world of Performance Car — the magic that is “print night”. Tonight we got to print on issue 140 (August), meaning that there is a long night ahead for everyone involved in the mag to get the finished product off to the printers before deadline. I’m not quite sure how, but  it always ends up being a late night, no matter how well we plan ahead. As always, I seem to have a fair amount of downtime on nights like this one, despite the looming deadline. Come to think of it, looking around the office, everyone seems to be busy but me. Perhaps this requires further thought, and maybe even a little soul searching… I’ll be sure to put that on my “to do” list. So, on the downside, I might possibly be the slackest staff member here (no surprises), but on the upside, I do have time to post this most fascinating of blogs.

So, you might wonder how the team powers through to the early hours of the morning to get the job done? Well, like most solutions to life’s many problems, the answer lies with News Editor Gray Lynskey’s Mum. Now, he wont actually tell me her name, so for the purposes of this post, I shall call her Linda. Linda is a great woman. A woman that, without fail, sends Gray packing on print day with some kind of tasty homemade cake, encapsulated within a classic Tuppaware plastic container (I bet your mum has a set too, doesn’t she) like some giant, delicious Kinder Surprise. This month was Chocolate. Awesome.

Of course, our staying power might also be enhanced thanks to a visit from Rockstar energy drinks yesterday. They dropped off a big box of the stuff for us to try, and the juice option is quite a tasty drop I must say, check it out. Anyway, Bossman is giving me the stink-eye, so I should probably head back to the large A3 proof sheets that need to be checked over with a fine tooth comb (figuratively of course, that would be stupid). The night has only just begun!

Proof sheets – what print week is made of.
